Marine leisure equipment means the vessels used for leisure. It is categorized into non-powered paddle boats, engine-based power boats, and sail yachts propelled with wind. The applied technologies of marine leisure equipment includes design engineering technology, a variety of advanced technologies (e.g., parts & materials, mechatronics, electric navigation and communications), and aesthetic and sensuous interior technology. Therefore, the government designated marine leisure equipment as one of 100 strategic products based on technologies, and focuses on its technology development to grow the marine leisure industry as a new growth engine in Korea.
Numerical Analysis
We support computational fluid dynamics (CFD) related to marine leisure equipment and facilities. We secure the technology of analyzing Hydrodynamics/Aerodynamics resistance performance, and fluid dynamics of main performance about test products and developed products. We do our best to improve accuracy through comparison and validation in fluid tests.

hull making and test-operation
Development of high-speed stepped hull and planning hull with resistance and rolling reduction
- A step is installed in the bottom of high-speed planing hull. In the high-speed planing state, the water contact area is reduced and thereby frictional resistance is decreased. As a result, high-speed performance and fuel efficiency effect occur.
- The high-speed planing hull vessel based on the bottom step causes sharp rolling when turned in the direction of head or bow waves, due to the loss of the left & right contact areas of its stern in the high-speed navigation. The problem is solved.

Artificial Surf Water Tank Research
Surf Leisure Sports Industry
- As of 2013, the global surfing population is about 37 million, three times higher than in 2002 (13 million).
- With a sharp rise in the domestic surf population, 300,000 surfers annually visits Yangyang in Gangwon-do.
- The current domestic surfing industry is activated only in the beaches of Busan, Jeju, and some others.
- More than eight large artificial wave pools for surfing run, and there is nothing in Korea.
Artificial wave generation technology
- It is the technology of generating waves for surfing artificially. At present, Spanish and Australian enterprises lead the development and application.
- Waves can be generated in different ways: the way of generatingwaves through machine motion and the way of generating waves through the control of water flow
Paddle boat research
Paddle boats refer to the marine leisure equipment moving through paddling. The equipment includes canoe, kayak, scull, and sup. Research Institute of Medium and Small Shipbuilding has development know-how accumulated over multiple years. It is possible to develop equipment with any performance and shape.
